PHARMAKON

Pharmakon is a publication about the political history of human chemistry.

Pharmakon is an old Greek word that means remedy and poison at once.

We prefer to separate the two. Chemistry never did.

A substance becomes medicine through dose, circumstance, belief, law and the hand that gives it. The same substance can heal, alter, sedate, stimulate or destroy. Its chemistry may remain unchanged while everything around it changes.

Pharmakon follows those changes.

We trace what humans have put into bodies, why they did it, who decided what was permitted, and what happened afterward.
